Photo Scavenger Hunt & Memorial Ride
Rules of the Trail
Because even the most epic adventures need a few guidelines. None of these will surprise you.
When to be where
- 9:30 AMRegistration opens.
- 10:30 AMMission Lists go out and the hunt begins. The mountain is yours.
- 2:00 PMLunch is served to every registered rider.
- 3:00 PMEveryone back. Bring your picture phone to the Judging Booth and upload.
- 3:30 PMRaffle and games. Judging happens quietly in the back while the party runs up front.
- After judgingWinners announced. Stick around — you won't want to miss it.
3:00 PM is a hard deadline. Be back by then to qualify for photo contest prizes. Not even puppy-dog eyes will work after that — we're punctual, not mean.
Rule 1 — How the hunt works
On event morning your team gets its Mission List. That's your treasure map for the day. Here's the game.
Photo & video missions
The location has to be in the shot
Ride to the place a mission names, then take the photo or video it asks for. That spot must be visible to count — Elway trailer in frame, valid. A heroic pose in unidentifiable wilderness, nice try. This is the rule that gets argued about most, so it's in writing.
GPS missions
Follow the coordinates to a goose
Some missions are coordinates, and they lead to a Wanna Ride goose sign. Check the envelope on the back. Prize inside, it's yours. Riddle prizes go to the first team to find them, so keep your eyes peeled and your goose radar on.

Somebody beat you there
It happens, and it happens a lot. Take a very sad photo at the sign to prove you made it — and to properly mourn your loss. Those photos are consistently among the best of the day.
Scoring
Complete as many as you like
Overachievers welcome, and nobody is required to do all of them. The stuck-in-the-mud shots absolutely count. So do the ones where the plan clearly fell apart halfway through.
Rule 2 — How judging works
Pick ONE phone per team as your picture phone, and take every mission photo and video on that one device.
Trust us on this. It saves everybody a headache at the end of a long day.
- Roll back in by 3:00 PM and bring that phone to the Judging Booth.
- We plug it into our computer and you choose which shots to upload. We don't need all 47 blurry photos of your buddy's boot — just your best work.
- They go into your team's folder, and the judges pore over every team's entries during the raffle and games.
- Winners are announced once judging wraps up.
So keep the party going up front. Greatness is being decided quietly in the back.
Rules 3 to 6 — Playing nice
Rule 3
Keep it beautiful
Follow Leave No Trace and Cowboy Character ethics. Stay on designated trails no matter how tempting that shortcut looks, pack out what you pack in, and respect the wildlife. Take only photos, leave only appropriate tire tracks, and don't pick the wildflowers — they're terrible at posing anyway.
Rule 4
Play nice
Be courteous to your fellow riders and respect private property. If it isn't public land or clearly part of the route, stay off it — one bad interaction can cost us access we've spent years earning. We're all here for the best day possible.
Rule 5
Avoid the traffic jam
If you see a convoy heading one direction, check your missions and choose a different adventure. Nobody wants twelve teams attempting synchronised jumping jacks at the same goose sign.
Rule 6
Love our volunteers
They traded a Saturday on the couch to stand at a stop in the wind all day so you could have this. Treat them accordingly — and they probably know where the best snacks, and maybe a goose or two, are hidden.
Staying safe out there
Before you go
Know what your machine can do, and be honest about what it can't. Carry real safety gear — a positive attitude is lovely, but it will not fix a flat.
While you're out
Stay with your group. Getting lost alone is nowhere near as fun as getting lost together. Keep your communication devices working; smoke signals are not an acceptable backup. And watch the sky — weather up here changes faster than your excuse for taking that wrong turn.
